An exciting looking forward to 2015

If you would have said to me you will become a double Commonwealth Games Champion and finish 4th in the World Triathlon Series (WTS) at the beginning of the year I would not have believed you! But of course I would have taken it!

I was given the option by my coach to either concentrate on the WTS or the Commonwealth Games – I went for the latter which was a very difficult choice to make. From that moment on, my focus was winning Gold in Glasgow and every bit of energy through the year was focused on that race, and what a race it was. Since qualifying in London in 2013 it had been in the forefront of my mind. For everything to come together the way it did was absolutely incredible and is extremely hard for me to put into words.

At the beginning of 2014 I won in Cape Town and Auckland as part of the WTS which was a surprise to both my coach and I as these weren’t my goals. However winning these two races was a fantastic way to start the year and it put me in a great position within the series.

Following the Commonwealth Games I turned my attention back to the last two WTS races. Unfortunately having focused on the Commonwealth Games I was unable to finish on the podium and had to settle for 4th. I had hoped to finish on the Podium however on this occasion, unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

At the beginning of December I took part in my first 70.3 challenge race which was in Bahrain. This is a discipline I am not used to so finishing 8th I felt was a great achievement and has put in a great position to push forward into 2015.

2015 is an important year as a selection spot is available for the 2016 Rio Olympics! There is also the Rio World Cup test event in August which will allow me to familiarize myself with the course. The WTS will take a priority next year which I am looking forward to and hope to challenge myself with a year full of targets and goals.

It’s exciting looking forward to 2015 and I hope all the employees and clients at Threadneedle are as well. I wish all you triathletes the best of luck in hitting your goals and targets in the New Year. Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year with loved ones, great food, a little wine and of course some training!
